Keith Sanderson Hired As Softball Head Coach
College of Southern Maryland Athletics has hired Keith Sanderson to be the next head coach of the women's softball program.
Sanderson was most recently the girls softball head coach at La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland. He began working there in 2017 as an assistant coach, and was head coach from 2021-2023.
The La Plata Warriors won the Maryland 2A State Championship in back to back years in 2018 and 2019.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to join the College of Southern Maryland Athletic Program and continue CSM's tradition - and my commitment - to build not just strong athletes, but also students with strong character," Sanderson said.
Sanderson graduated from La Plata High School in 1992. He was a three-sport athlete, playing football (four years), basketball (four years), and baseball (two years).
After graduating from La Plata, Sanderson attended CSM for a semester before joining the United States Army in 1993. Sanderson served in the Army from 1993-1998.
After returning home from the military, Sanderson started working for then-Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) and has been there for almost 24 years.
Sanderson started coaching youth football and baseball in 1998, and started coaching youth softball around 2005 for Hughesville Little League. In 2009, Sanderson co-founded and was the president of the Hughesville Hurricanes youth sports organization, which fielded recreational football and cheer, travel baseball and softball teams, AAU basketball, and competitive cheer. Sanderson was the president of the Hughesville Hurricanes for 10 years.
Sanderson has been married to his wife Holly Sanderson since 1997. They have two children - Jared, who is serving in the United States Air Force, and Sierra, who is playing softball on a scholarship at Frostburg State University.
