
Softball Holds 5-3 Record After First Two Weeks of Season
The College of Southern Maryland Hawks softball team sits at 5-3 overall after their first two weeks of the season.
The Hawks swept their first doubleheader against the Montgomery College Raptors on March 4, taking Game 1 11-9 and Game 2 11-5. Madison Jury had a four-RBI game in CSM's Game 2 win, going 4-5 at the plate.
CSM then split their next three doubleheaders against the Hagerstown Community College Hawks, the Howard Community College Dragons, and the SUNY Orange Colts.
Jury went 2-2 with a run scored and three RBIs in CSM's 9-2 Game 1 win over Hagerstown on March 15. In the 15-13 Game 2 loss, every CSM batter recorded at least one hit. Madison Kavlick went 2-5 with five RBIs and one run scored, while Elaina Ayers went 2-3 with four runs, four RBIs, and drew two walks.
Cameron Guy broke out against Howard on March 18 in CSM's 11-7 Game 2 win with a two-home run performance. She finished the game with five RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk going 3-4 at the plate. Abby Norris also drove in three runs with a 4-4 game.
Lacey Bateman drove in five runs while going 3-3 at the plate in CSM's 10-8 Game 1 win over SUNY Orange on March 19. She also struck out nine Colts and walked one as she pitched a complete game.
Bateman leads the Hawks in several hitting and pitching categories. She has a .552 batting average, .600 on-base percentage, and 16 hits. In the circle, she owns a 4.03 ERA with a 4-1 record, four complete games thrown, and has 43 strikeouts to three walks over 33.0 innings pitched. Bateman had a season-high 15 strikeouts on March 15 against Hagerstown, the most a CSM pitcher has recorded in a game since at least 2012-13.
Guy and Ayers lead the Hawks with two home runs each. Ayers leads the team in slugging percentage at .778 and RBIs with 11.
