Weekly Recap: Volleyball Sweeps Quartet Of MD JUCO Matches, Women’s Soccer Obliterates Owls

LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland athletics program saw the women's teams go undefeated in all five matches that were played while the Hawks sported a 6-2 (75%) overall record as a department.

 

Volleyball:

  • Top Performers
    • Mia Decarlo has returned to the lineup with vengeance after missing a few games due to injury, tying with Donshae Walls for the most service aces last week (10, 0.77 p/s) on top of 26 digs (2.00 p/s), including a season-most six aces at Frederick.
    • Walls lived up to her last name by forming a wall above the net courtesy of a team-best nine blocks, six solo swats, while also hitting 0.308 thanks to 17 kills (1.31 p/s) and going off for five service aces at Chesapeake.
    • Deanna Kalkbrenner was deadly accurate on the attack, smashing 28 kills compared to five errors over 43 attempts for an absurd 0.535 hitting percentage.
    • Ana Martinez (formerly Salamanca) may have switched her last name, but the results remain consistent, racking up an average of 4.92 digs per set for a grand total of 64.
    • Lelia Iafeta reached double-figure kills in all four victories, going for 55 (4.23 p/s) in addition to 29 digs (2.23 p/s), sporting double-double vision opposite Hagerstown.
    • Amelie Lancioni put a triple-digit number into the assists portion of the stat sheet during the perfect week, accruing 109 (8.38 p/s) to go along with 27 (2.08 p/s) digs.

  • Top Performers
    • Matthew Knapp provided two of the club's three scores during its pair of matches, putting together more than 2.5 times as many shots (10) as the next closest Hawk, Aydyn Meaders, with four.
    • Speaking of Meaders, he was one of two players to notch an assist against the Owls and Catamounts, joining Dominic Porovne.
    • The final goal scored came off the foot of Xavier Lalanne, connecting on his second of the season at PGCC.

  • Top Performers
    • In the lone contest of the slate, the women slaughtered the Owls of Prince George's behind a trio of hat tricks from Sara Allwine (4), Amber Jones (3), and Abby May (3), the latter of the three (May) tacking on an equal number of assists to give her a nine-point day.
    • Abigail Noftsier provided her third goal of the campaign as well whereas Kiera Salazar and Noftsier netted assists as well.
    • Kylie Smith recorded quite possibly the most stress-free shutout of all time, spending all 70 minutes with the goalie gloves on and did not have to face a single shot attempt from the home side.
