Weekly Recap: Six Matches Result In Four Wins

LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland athletics program spent the entire week of September 16-21 either inside CSM Gymnasium or on the adjacent pitch outside, apart from a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia on Sunday by men's soccer, and came away with a quartet of dubs.

 

Volleyball:

  • Top Performers
    • Amelie Lancioni recorded back-to-back-to-back assist and dig double-doubles, leading the Black and Gold in both categories at 49 (4.90 p/s) and 59 (5.90 p/s), respectively.
    • Ana Salamanca was a menace against the Fighting Owls, tallying personal records regarding assists (6) and service aces (4) while digging up 56 balls in three matches.
    • Kaylen Miles was Lancioni-light, averaging 3.22 assists (29) and 1.44 digs (13) per set as the wing woman that provided little drop-off when the primary lady needed a quick breather.
    • Deanna Kalkbrenner usually spends her time above the net trying to block the opponent, but she switched roles to go on the offensive with a pair of double-figure kill outings, including a season-best 13 versus Allegany.
    • Lelia Iafeta attempted three times more attacks than the next-closest Hawk, contributing 44 kills (4.40 p/s) in addition to 22 digs (2.20 p/s), the former easily leading the squad.
    • Donshae Walls threw a block party all by her lonesome, going for 11 total blocks to average more than one per set, a 2025-high six of those coming in a clutch victory over Harford.

  • Top Performers
    • Shamar McKen and Everton McKinney linked up to score against #8 CCBC Essex for the first time in two seasons as McKen took the assist from McKinney and placed it into the goal, giving the Hawks positive momentum heading into the weekend's blowout at VPCC.
    • Matthew Knapp had a multi-goal game against Virginia Peninsula while Zion Abdullah, Donovan Dean, Xavier Lalanne, and Fondjo Ulrich Kamyou all earned scores opposite the Gators.
    • Kamyou was the lone player with both a goal and a helper on Sunday whereas Nelson Acevedo Jr., Antone Perry, Ryan Kopicko plus Aydyn Meaders all assisted on one of the half-dozen net-finding missiles.
    • Brandon Rollins battled valiantly against the Knights and eventually wound up doubling his goals allowed (7) tally with a grand total of 15 saves.

  • Top Performers
    • In six matches, Kiera Salazar has now posted at least two goals in four of them, adding scores #12 and #13 to her season ledger during a seven-shot barrage that saw five of them land on-target.
    • Abby May tied Salazar for the shots lead (7), was one behind her teammate in SOGs (4), and sent one of her shots screaming past the goalkeeper.
    • The fourth goal came off the foot of Amber Jones, who also provided an assist for May's game-winner, while Sara Allwine yielded an assist as well.
    • Kylie Smith (57 minutes) and Raynna Ratchford (33 minutes) split the match duties between the pipes, neither ceding a score while combining for five saves.
