Softball 2022-23 Season Review
The College of Southern Maryland Hawks softball team's 2022-23 season came to an end on May 12 when they lost 8-3 to Hagerstown Community College in the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Tournament.
The Hawks finished the year with a 9-17 overall record and a 6-10 Region 20 Division II record.
CSM went 5-5 in the month of March. They started off the season with a sweep of Montgomery College on March 4, winning Game 1 11-8 and Game 2 11-5, and split their other Region 20 matchups against Hagerstown and Howard Community College.
The Hawks struggled in April, going 2-10 with their only wins coming against Garrett College on April 8.
On May 6, CSM beat Anne Arundel Community College 2-1 in Game 1 and 10-8 in Game 2 of the Region 20 Division II Tournament Play-In Round to advance to the Region 20 Division II Tournament. It was the CSM softball program's first postseason victory since the 2016-17 season when the Hawks swept Hagerstown in the play-in round.
CSM fell to Chesapeake College in the first game of the tournament on May 11 by a score of 10-6 before coming up short against Hagerstown to conclude their season.
Abby Norris, Lacey Bateman, and Cameron Guy received All-Region 20 and All-Maryland JUCO recognition for their play during the season. Norris was named to the All-Region 20 Division II Second Team and the All-Maryland JUCO First Team; Bateman was named to the All-Region 20 Division II Second Team and the All-Maryland JUCO Second Team; Guy was named an All-Region 20 Division II Honorable Mention and an All-Maryland JUCO Honorable Mention.
